Aloha, I created this rich, small Honu sculptural pendant to celebrate this peaceful & important marine animal and I call it “Spirit Honu Liiâ€. I meticulously hand selected the rough gem and then cut this mysterious, chatoyant, deep-green, Seraphinite gemstone for this pendant. This gemstone gives this Honu great depth and majesty. It is set it in a solid sterling silver sculpture I created in the lost wax tradition. This piece is my Jewel # P-SHL-SRPHN-1047-001
After much study of ancient Hawaiian and Polynesian Honu art and mythology, I sculpted the Spirit Honu to be an exotic form and integrated stylized ancient Polynesian tattoo art in a spiraling wave pattern to represent the spirit within as well as our profound and crucial relationship with the sea.
In the Hawaiian culture, the Green Sea Turtle is revered and is lovingly called “Honuâ€; it symbolizes humility, peace, longevity and the spirit within. The ancient Hawaiians even created the myth that the Hawaiian islands themselves were mounted to a giant Honu’s shell and the movement of the sun, stars and moon in the sky was actually caused by the giant Honu swimming beneath them.
This beautiful piece is a member of my “Life on the Reef†collection of marine life jewelry art which focuses on important, and in this case very familiar and well-loved members of the tropical reef community. I have also created a larger Spirit Honu Nui version of this pendant which you can find in my Etsy Shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/JewelsoftheReef, or here on my website.
Aloha and Enjoy,
Thresh
Features
Gemstone: Gorgeous, deep-green, rare, Seraphinite gemstone with silvery-white chatoyancy, giving this sculpture tremendous depth, life and spirit. Seraphinite is named after the Greek mythological Seraphim and is found in only one spot on earth that we know of, in Russia. Please know that Seraphinite is a relatively soft gemstone, so it is best to keep it from rubbing and scraping into other hard items. This is a completely natural, untreated gemstone that I have composed, cut and set in my Kauai Studio.
Setting: Solid Sterling Silver hand-sculpted lost wax casting, created from recycled silver, purified, alloyed and certified to the highest standards, made in the USA. It is hand signed on the back with "Thresh" and "925".
Size: This lii (small, petite) size pendant measures just a bit over 1†tall x a bit under 1†wide x nearly 3/8†thick. It’s about the same diameter as a quarter, but I feel it presents a little smaller due to its’ sculpted form. It is sculpted and completely finished on the back.
Patina: created in the recesses of the sculpture to subtly contrast and accentuate the highly polished raised surfaces.
Chain: Solid Sterling Silver 1.1mm Snake chain with fine lobster clasp and subtle oxidized patina in the recesses, 18†length included.
Authenticity: I hand sign this original fine jewelry art that I personally create in my Kauai studio, as this shows my pride in my unique design and fine workmanship. The jewelry photographed here is the actual piece you are purchasing and that I will ship. I create and include a genuine Certificate of Authenticity with this original jewelry art piece.
Presentation: I nestle my jewelry art in a beautiful blue leatherette presentation jewelry gift box with white satin interior, with a white customized Jewels of the Reef outer packing cover. I include this at no additional charge, as I think you’ll appreciate this attention to detail.
Kauai Made: This original jewelry art is certified by The County of Kauai, Hawaii in the “Kauai Made†program as it was created on Kauai, by the people of Kauai, with love and respect for the aina (land) of Kauai.
Reef Conservation: Melding my passion for the sea and the magnificent tropical reef environs of the world with my love of gem cutting and fine art sculpting, I created Jewels of the Reef. I hope my jewelry art helps to raise awareness of reef life and its importance in all of our lives. I regularly contribute some of the proceeds from my jewelry sales to a few select and effective conservation organizations who are working hard to preserve our incredibly important and valuable reefs and all of the species that depend on them throughout the world, including ourselves. Please also see my website at http://www.jewelsofthereef.com/conservation_a/270.htm for more on this topic.
